Mia the school dog

Reading Champion

Meet Mia our reading assistance champion.

Mia was rescued from the streets of Serbia as a 3-month old puppy and taken to a dog pound in Serbia.  Here she was sponsored by Balkan Underdogs, where she lived on a farm for 6 months.

Eventually she was adopted by Gill (a retired school nurse) and she is loving her new life in the UK.

Mia is an unusual breed, a  Kokoni (an ancient Greek breed) and is now 4-5 years old.

Gill registered with Canine Concern in 2022 and volunteers with Mia at a care home in Rugeley, as well as visiting Windsor Park.

In recent years, research has proven how beneficial, and valuable, the bond between dog and human has become and the children benefit from the connection they make with Mia during reading time.
